Hello!  This is More Than Math by Mo and this is my first attempt at a linky (began blogging about one month ago)  and I couldn't be more excited!  I love the Freebielicious blog and who doesn't love freebies.  Check back on the first of each month for this wonderful linky!

So here goes-----I hope you enjoy this Freebie.  I am sharing one of my forever freebies that I have available.  Compound Word Cone Creations is a 13 page hands-on activity set & printables.  This set can be used in many different ways but I have always used it as a center activity and my students enjoy it very much!  I hope your littles love it too!
This freebie is geared toward students in K-2nd grade.

Much gratitude goes out to Freebielicious for allowing me to link up and hosting this great linky!
Check back on the 1st of each month for new freebies!

Hop over and visit me one day and since I'm a newbie, feedback from veterans is always appreciated ;)

It's a FABULOUS FREEBIE this FRIDAY!!!

Here it is!  I promised you a good freebie this Friday and I think you will find this one very useful! My students have had so much fun with this set.  I use it as a center.  I have always found that compound words is one of those skills that you can review often throughout the year.  Every once in a while I will pull this center out of the closet and toss it into our centers to give a little change.  My students love to make the ice cream cones on the work mat.  Many of mine have created little stories about what flavor each color ice cream scoop is.  I hope your students enjoy it as much as mine.  Feel free to leave comments to let me know how it worked in your classroom.  This always helps me to tweak items to make them better. Cheers to the weekend-make it a good one.

Click on the picture to access the file for download. And please share this info anywhere you would like-as long as it's linked back to my blog. Thanks

*Remember-if you enjoy my blog, please become an official follower.  I love doing giveaways to my official followers!! As a matter of fact I still have one going on now.  Become one of my first 10 followers and I will send you a set from my TpT store that other people have to pay for.  I am currently at 5 followers.

Liebster Blog Award

Thanks to Kristin Wynegar for nominating me for this award. It feels amazing to know that someone enjoys what you create and share as I am an up and coming blogger.

Kristin has a wonderful blog that you can visit by clicking her button below..

Queen of Sticky Notes

The Liebster Award is given by bloggers to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers. It is to show new bloggers that they are appreciated and to help spread the word about new blogs.

The rules:*You must post 11 random things about yourself.*Answer the questions that the nominator set for you.*Create 11 questions for the people you nominate.*Choose 11 blogs you love {with less than 200 followers} and link them in your post.*No tag back {but please leave me a comment on this post with the URL to your Leibster post so I can learn more about you!}

Ok, here goes. 11 things about me...
1. I opened my own school, Southside Learning Academy, this school year. We offer a state approved education for students in PreK through 6th grade that may not learn best in a typical school setting.
2. I am the mother of 2 amazing boys. C2 is 9 years old and C3 is 6 years old.
3. I have 5 tattoos
4. I wish everyone would remember.....body modifications do not change character.
5. I have lived in the same town my entire 32 years of life.
6. My teaching motto is Hand in Hand, We all Learn-I learn something new everyday because of my students.
7. My husband and I started dating when I was 16.
8. I do not get nervous when speaking in front of a large group (as long as I am prepared).
9. I am addicted to Amazon, Ferrero Rocher chocolate candy, Starbucks iced coffee, clip art graphics (especially Ashley Hughes-on TpT), and fonts.
10. I believe in a higher power and that I am a teacher for a reason. I have a purpose in life.
11. When times get tough I repeat-God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. (I can be a control freak at times)

My answers to Queen of Sticky Notes (Kristin's) questions:
1. Who is your hero? My grandfather! He is the most loving and peaceful man and I know that he has got a special place up above.
2. What made you want to become a teacher? My dad was a teacher and I grew up saying I would never teach like him. It wasn't until my last semester in college (for my first bachelors) that a professor pointed out qualities that I had never noticed about myself. He encouraged me to look into teaching. He told me that the qualities he had noticed would benefit a classroom full of students. I started digging deep to find out what I really wanted to do for the rest of my life and eventually came to the conclusion that teaching was what I was meant to do. I am in my 8th year and love it more and more everyday.
3. What makes you happy? My children (actually all children), coffee, and chocolate.
4. What is your favorite hobby? At the moment my favorite hobby is sitting on my back porch with my laptop creating teacher resources to share on TpT. Once I start on a set I just cannot quit until it is perfect! 5. Do you have children (outside of the 20 some we love every day at school)?? If not, do you want kids one day? I have 2 beautiful, healthy, energetic boys. They are 9 and 6.
 6. What is your favorite blog? At the moment I would have to say The School Supply Addict written by the very talented Ashley Hughes
7. If you could be any animal, what would you chose? I would be a monkey. They always seem so happy and carefree.
8. What is the funniest teaching moment you have encountered so far? Many things have happened over the years but just yesterday one of my PreK's went home and told his mom I said he could have a pet turkey so his pet dog would have a friend. I guess he didn't hear the word pretend when I let them choose a "pet" to research and learn about!
9. Winter or Summer? Winter-I love my fireplace. I live in Louisiana and our summer humidity is no fun!
10. What will you be doing over the holidays? I stayed in my pajamas shopping/working on my computer and did not feel one bit guilty.
11. What is your favorite quote? "Dream like you'll live forever, Live like there's no tomorrow" I live life one day at a time and try to make every moment count. I live with no regrets. Yesterday cannot be be changed so why let it take away your precious time that you still have today.
Now, I'd like to nominate some people for the award
.

Kinders and "Funny-Looking" Fonts

Do your littles struggle when they see a letter of the alphabet in environmental print that doesn't match the manuscript print they are used to working with?  I have had this happen recently.  In order to help them determine what letter of the alphabet they are looking at,  I created a poster for our classroom.  This poster has all letters of the alphabet and anytime we come across a "funny looking" letter, we cut it out or copy it and add it to our poster under the manuscript letter. (will post pic soon).

Another solution I came up with was an alphabet center where students match an upper case letter to it's lowercase partner.  I used various fonts for this activity and it seems to be helping my students.  The activity center I created is available in my TpT store.  Click on the link below to head on over to my store and check it out.

Cheers to my first FREEBIE Friday!  I know that it is late and Friday has almost come to an end, but I would like to share a FREEBIE with you.  It was a very busy week in my classroom.  My little ones are learning the letter S and having fun with the various activities we have been doing.  They just love making a sssssssssssnake sound.  My 2nd graders are having fun reading and learning about Thanksgiving.  Next week we will be talking about traditional Thanksgiving food and I will be using this FREEBIE to get some creative writing going in my room.  I hope you enjoy.  Be sure to check back every Friday because I will (try my hardest) post a free item that I have created.  Thanks for following my blog.
