Ok, here goes. 11 things about me...
1. I opened my own school, Southside Learning Academy, this school year. We offer a state approved education for students in PreK through 6th grade that may not learn best in a typical school setting.
2. I am the mother of 2 amazing boys. C2 is 9 years old and C3 is 6 years old.
3. I have 5 tattoos
4. I wish everyone would remember.....body modifications do not change character.
5. I have lived in the same town my entire 32 years of life.
6. My teaching motto is Hand in Hand, We all Learn-I learn something new everyday because of my students.
7. My husband and I started dating when I was 16.
8. I do not get nervous when speaking in front of a large group (as long as I am prepared).
9. I am addicted to Amazon, Ferrero Rocher chocolate candy, Starbucks iced coffee, clip art graphics (especially Ashley Hughes-on TpT), and fonts.
10. I believe in a higher power and that I am a teacher for a reason. I have a purpose in life.
11. When times get tough I repeat-God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. (I can be a control freak at times)
My answers to Queen of Sticky Notes (Kristin's) questions:
1. Who is your hero? My grandfather! He is the most loving and peaceful man and I know that he has got a special place up above.
2. What made you want to become a teacher? My dad was a teacher and I grew up saying I would never teach like him. It wasn't until my last semester in college (for my first bachelors) that a professor pointed out qualities that I had never noticed about myself. He encouraged me to look into teaching. He told me that the qualities he had noticed would benefit a classroom full of students. I started digging deep to find out what I really wanted to do for the rest of my life and eventually came to the conclusion that teaching was what I was meant to do. I am in my 8th year and love it more and more everyday.
3. What makes you happy? My children (actually all children), coffee, and chocolate.
4. What is your favorite hobby? At the moment my favorite hobby is sitting on my back porch with my laptop creating teacher resources to share on TpT. Once I start on a set I just cannot quit until it is perfect! 5. Do you have children (outside of the 20 some we love every day at school)?? If not, do you want kids one day? I have 2 beautiful, healthy, energetic boys. They are 9 and 6.
6. What is your favorite blog? At the moment I would have to say The School Supply Addict written by the very talented Ashley Hughes
7. If you could be any animal, what would you chose? I would be a monkey. They always seem so happy and carefree.
8. What is the funniest teaching moment you have encountered so far? Many things have happened over the years but just yesterday one of my PreK's went home and told his mom I said he could have a pet turkey so his pet dog would have a friend. I guess he didn't hear the word pretend when I let them choose a "pet" to research and learn about!
9. Winter or Summer? Winter-I love my fireplace. I live in Louisiana and our summer humidity is no fun!
10. What will you be doing over the holidays? I stayed in my pajamas shopping/working on my computer and did not feel one bit guilty.
11. What is your favorite quote? "Dream like you'll live forever, Live like there's no tomorrow" I live life one day at a time and try to make every moment count. I live with no regrets. Yesterday cannot be be changed so why let it take away your precious time that you still have today.
